Doug Meagher Sensei
Sandan - 3rd Dan, Chief Instructor, Northwest Goju
Doug
Meagher was born in 1959 and has been a life long resident of Welland, Ontario,
Canada. He has worked for
over 25 years in the steel industry.
Doug has over 20 years of experience in the Martial Arts and holds
a 3rd degree (Sandan) in Japanese Goju Ryu and as a 2nd degree
Blackbelt in Torite Jutsu (Pressure Points), with the Dragon Society
International.
Mr.
Meagher opened his first Dojo in 1994 and is Chief Instructor of Northwest
Goju Karate School. Doug met
Rusty McMains (his Instructor) in 1997 and decided to change his style of
Goju Ryu to the Okinawan style. Rusty
McMains being a direct student of Ramon Veras Sensei made it possible for
Canada to apply for membership to the P.O.G.K.F.
Sensei Meagher also teaches Kyusho Jutsu (pressure points) Tuite
(joint manipulation) and instructs others as to the nature of these very
old and valuable arts.
Doug
has been instrumental in bringing the Martial Art to the community of
Welland, by having his school collect food for the Soup Missions as
well as helping newly immigrating families adjust to their new homes in
Canada. Doug has also been
awarded the Citation of Bravery by the Niagara Regional Police
Association.
